Message from Arlene Wortsman,
Chair of the Grants & Evaluation Committee

The Federation conducts a granting process every two years for community agencies that helps determine how we allocate funds raised through our Annual Campaign. The process is led by the Grants & Evaluation Committee and conducted over several months starting in October. Agencies are invited to submit their applications for program funding. The committee reviews each application and evaluates requests based on whether the application:
•    remains in line with the Federation’s strategic objectives
•    provides a clearly presented budget and proposal
•    illustrates inter-agency collaboration
•    does not duplicate services

Once all applications are reviewed, the Grants & Evaluation Committee meets with each agency to gain a better understanding of their request. Recommendations are then compiled in a report and presented to the Federation’s Board of Directors for review and ratification. The grants are made to eligible programs that help Federation to meet its goal of creating a strong vibrant Jewish community. Funding priorities of the Jewish Federation of Ottawa are framed in the following envelopes:
• Assisting the vulnerable
• Strengthening community
• Religious outreach
