This year, Yom HaShoah 2025 will pay tribute to the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz Birkenau as well as a special presentation by the Ambassador of Greece, Her Excellency Ekaterina Dimakis.
The Holocaust saw the mass murder of both Greek Jews and ethnic Greeks. Greek Jews died mostly as a result of their deportation to Auschwitz concentration camp. By 1945, between 82 and 92 percent of Greek Jews had been murdered, one of the highest proportions in Europe.
Ms Elie Manousakis from Montreal will perform Song of Songs from Ballad of Mauthausen by Greek composer Mikis Theodorakis, accompanied by The Young String Performers in Concert under the direction of Joan Milkson.
Provincial Political Leaders, Mayor Sutcliffe, Ottawa Holocaust survivors and families will be present as well as a special presentation by Hannah Alberga, granddaughter of David Moskovic oldest Holocaust Survivor in Ottawa.
Fran Sonshine, Past President Canadian Society for Yad Vashem as well as a key Founder of The National Holocaust Monument will provide closing remarks
This official commemoration will invite all Canadians to take a moment to reflect on the past and the importance of coming together at The National Holocaust Monument as a legacy and to pay tribute to those who perished during the Holocaust.
