Please join the Embassy of Israel and the National Holocaust Monument Committee in commemorating Yom Ha Shoah, Israel's Holocaust Remembrance Day.
The commemorative event takes place at the National Holocaust Monument on April 18th at 11 am.
This year, Yom HaShoah will pay tribute to the 80th anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising on April 19, 1943. This was the largest uprising by Jews during World War ll and the first significant urban revolt against German occupation in Europe. About 700 young Jewish fighters participated as well as civilians in the Ghetto. After the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, the SS and police deported approximately 42,000 Jews to forced-labour camps and to the Lublin/Majdanek and Treblinka concentration camps. Most of these people were murdered in November 1943 in a two-day shooting operation known as Operation Harvest festival.
This official commemoration will invite not only the Jewish community but all Canadians to take a moment to reflect on the past. In particular, a special focus will be on inviting youth to attend.
The event will be live-streamed here
