Canadian Jewish life has been changing over three distinct timespans: over generations since multiculturalism's ascendance at home, over the past decade since the surge of antisemitism and antizionism locally and globally, and over the past year or so since Canada's neighbourly relations with the US began to sour. The Friday night session will trace these seismic changes. The Saturday morning session will ponder what our current moment might mean for a distinctly Canadian Jewish future, and will include a short text-study session of two case studies of other historical moments when Canadian Jewish unity was created and challenged - one from 100 years ago (the founding of Canadian Jewish Congress), and another from 50 years ago (during the Quiet Revolution).
Both sessions will follow Shabbat services on Friday and Saturday in the place of a sermon.
