Concepts & Misconceptions about Israel, Zionism, and the Jews || Charlotte Korchak
This talk discusses core concepts and misconceptions regarding Israel, Zionism, and the Jews, and provides the tools needed to explain these topics to others. Moreover, we will also tackle the claims made against Israel’s right to exist, providing the necessary knowledge to challenge those arguments and show how these expressions of Anti-Zionism are in fact antisemitism.
Presenter: Charlotte Korchak is the Senior Educator at StandWithUs. Charlotte graduated with a BA in Middle Eastern History from USC and has since been working for StandWithUs. In her current role, Charlotte works with over 10,000 students a year educating them about Israel and training them to be activists in their high schools, universities, and communities worldwide.
Second Session:
Sunday, May 29, 2022 @ 3:30 PM; Israel Time 10:30 PM
Old-school Justice? Rethinking Social Justice Jewishly | Yonah Lavery - Yisraeli
Calls to defund the police and abolish prisons are working their way into mainstream discourse about the justice system. Society is questioning more and more its reliance on organized, structural violence to resolve conflict. Is this a new conversation, or the resurgence of an old one? In this session, we will examine traditional Jewish methods of conflict resolution, looking at sources from the Mishnah to the Shulhan Arukh.
Presenter: R. Yonah Lavery-Yisraeli currently learns at Bet Midrash Hukkim Hakhamim. She also runs Hamilton Beit Midrash, a place where Jews can study Talmud in its original languages and using traditional methodology, regardless of their gender, for free. She is a soferet STA"M working on her second Torah scroll and has published a number of articles on Talmud and Jewish law.
