A unique retrospect on Canada's most iconic and prolific Jewish writer, Irving Layton. The session will focus on Irving Layton's Jewish-themed poems. It will centre around Montreal, Jewish Montreal and its culture that all lend to his persona at the same time in the backdrop of the birth of the State of Israel. Seymour Mayne will delve into Layton's life and creativity. We also hear intimate perspectives from Max Layton, Irving Layton's son.
The selected poems hold attention today as we encounter the resurgence of anti-Semitism reflected in assaults on Jews, and offensive vehemence against Israel.
