On behalf of the National Holocaust Monument Committee (NHMC), we are pleased to invite you to attend The International Holocaust Remembrance Day Commemoration to be held outdoors at The National Holocaust Monument, Ottawa, on Friday January 27 2023 from 11:00-11:45am EST.

In 2005, the U.N. General Assembly designated January 27 as International Holocaust Remembrance Day (IHRD). It honors the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi concentration and death camp, where more than one million innocent people were systematically murdered during the Second World War. January 2023 marks the 78th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau in 1945.

This official commemoration will invite all Canadians to take a moment to reflect on the past, and to mark this day as a day of not only remembrance but continued action to eradicate antisemitism in each of our communities.

A number of Federal and Municipal Buildings will be illuminated throughout The National Capital Commission on this day and will also be live streamed on CIJA's Facebook page here as part of a national commemoration. “We Remember” is also a national social media campaign. We extend a warm welcome to all.
