Shawna Dolansky and her research team have been experimenting with a new method of graphic reconstruction that aggregates textual, archaeological, and other historical information available toward gaining a deeper understanding of the positions that women held, and the roles they played, in the ancient world. Part of an ambitious project to make ancient women's lives more visible, the Women of the Ancient World (WOAW) website is in a beta testing mode that features the work completed to date on the biblical figure of Jezebel. Join Shawna in a walk-through of the site, as she discusses this new graphic and interactive approach to research and dissemination of historical information, as well as the differences between the way biblical authors depicted Jezebel, and the (potentially) historical figure of this Phoenician princess turned Israelite Queen - and the all-important question underlying the research project: how do we know what we know about the past?
