Topic: The genesis of an art piece can be a long and convoluted process. I will be talking about my art practice, specifically the wall work I have done in the last few years. I will concentrate on a piece which I have recently finished. It commemorates my mother and her holocaust experience using her words verbatum. There were a lot of moving parts, and difficulties in the journey to the finish line. In the end, it brings together my life experience, having lived in Asia, and my family history. The result has been a ceramic centred, text based, very personal piece. I am hoping to share this journey with you.

Bio: Monica has an Art History University Education and after graduate school learned to throw and hand build at a community studio. Her life took her to Japan, where extensive travel in Asia was a good education for the eye. Her ceramic education includes studying at Haystack in Maine, St. Lawrence College, and Haliburton School of Art and Design. She have studied in Korea and toured ceramic studios there and in Japan. She is a member of Gladstone Clayworks, a Cooperative clay studio in Ottawa. Her work has been in juried shows in Ottawa with the Ottawa Guild of Potters and in Toronto with Fusion: The Ontario Clay and Glass Assoc. Her work can be found at the Ottawa Art Gallery Shop and Annexe, and Guildworks, Prince Edward County.
