A screening of the documentary In Search of Yiddish by prominent Russian-Jewish scientist, poet, and singer-songwriter Alexandr Gorogitsky. The film is in Russian with English subtitles.

About the film: On the eve of his 75th birthday, world-renowned marine geophysicist and legendary Soviet bard Alexandr Gorodnitsky embarks on a profoundly personal journey to Belarus and Israel. Returning to Mogilev—his parents’ birthplace and the site where his extended family was murdered during the Holocaust—Gorodnitsky seeks out the surviving remnants of a once-vibrant European Jewish world.
Directed by Yury Khashchevatsky, this 88-minute cinematic journey is woven together with archival history, reflections on cultural giants like Marc Chagall and Sholem Aleichem, and original, hauntingly beautiful poetry and songs performed by Gorodnitsky himself. In Search of Yiddish is a powerful, lyrical exploration of memory, historical trauma, and the enduring resilience of a language and heritage.
