A key part of Canada’s journey toward reconciliation with Indigenous people is listening to their voices. This course will attempt to help engage in this journey through a study of a variety of works that depict the Canadian Indigenous experience. These will include Richard Wagamese’s novel Indian Horse, Michelle Good’s novel Five Little Indians, Waubgeshig Rice’s novel Moon of the Crusted Snow and the collection Our Story: Aboriginal Voices on Canada’s Past. In addition, we will study short texts such as essays, poems, myths and literature for children (when possible, Internet links to these shorter materials will be provided). The course will be taught in such a way that you will be able to engage even if you do not have time to read all the texts in advance. Instructor: Dr. Gefen Bar-On Santor
