"As far back as I can remember I have explored life off the beaten track and loved a good adventure. In my teens I bicycled from Vancouver to Mexico. In my twenties I spent a year bicycling across Europe and North Africa. After I had children I would take them out of school for a couple of months at a time for hiking and rough camping road trips, schooling them en route and sending back my column from the road. Together we hiked down the Grand Canyon and up Mount McKinley. I have climbed Kilimanjaro, Base Camp of Everest, the Andes, and the mountains of Greece. In a very real sense, even though I am not Jewish, I found myself in Israel. My 2 ½ month trek through the Holy Land was a soul enriching, life altering experience that was unparalleled for me and where I found my peace. "
