Under the supervision of the Recreation Program and Volunteer Manager, the Recreation Assistant is responsible for ensuring that the emotional, cognitive, physical, spiritual, and social needs of the residents are met and maintained on an individual and group basis.
Assist in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of resident-focused programs in accordance with the care plan goals and preferences of the residents
Implement and monitor program goals and care plans to meet resident recreational needs and promote independence and self-esteem
Work with other departments to optimize resident care
Maintain positive working relationships with residents and families
Assess residents as assigned
Provide input for resident care conferences
Suggest new and innovative programs to reflect changing residents' needs
Recommend purchases of recreation supplies and equipment
Invite and escort residents to and from programs
Encourage and motivate resident participation
Direct or lead programs
Deliver programs to residents on a one-to-one basis or in groups
Set up and arrange furniture and equipment for programs
Ensure appropriate utilization of all supplies and equipment
Maintain recreational equipment and supplies in good working condition
Adapt programs (equipment and supplies) to meet the needs of the residents
Maintain accurate resident and department records including attendance, statistics, and assessments
Participate in the development of monthly recreation calendars
Input monthly calendar on MSTV and update programs, as necessary
Participate in PointClickCare and RAI/MDS documentation
Other duties as required to ensure the safety and well-being of the resident of the Home.
Post -Secondary diploma or degree in the field of Therapeutic Recreation/Leisure Studies/Gerontology or related field from a recognized College or University
Experience and a desire to work with a geriatric population
Effective interpersonal communication and strong leadership skills
Creative, energetic, and positive team player with an ability to manage time efficiently and be organized as well as be able to prioritize tasks
Demonstrate good listening skills
Computer literate with an understanding of RAI-MDS and PointClickCare software system preferred.
Familiarity with the Jewish religion, customs, and culture is considered an asset.
Excellent verbal and written skills in English
