(February 11, 2010) Since opening a fund a little over three weeks ago, the Jewish Federation of Ottawa Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund has managed to bring in $41,000 which will go to assist those in dire need in Haiti.
The funds are being allocated to United Israel Appeal Federations Canada (UIAFC) who in turn will allocate them to IsraAid, the coalition of Israeli NGO disaster relief specialists. Fund proceeds also qualify for Canadian government matching dollars, which will be allocated to Canada's Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund. This fund has been established outside of the Federation's Annual Campaign.
A 12-member IsraAid team will focus on their particular areas of expertise, specifically in the fields of emergency medicine; search and rescue; post-trauma counseling, and water purification. IsraAid members are also in talks with various hi-tech companies who specialize in restoring collapsed communications networks; something vital in Haiti today.
Every dollar you donate will be matched by the Government of Canada. These matching dollars will be sent by the government to its Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund to support vital relief efforts.
Thank you for your ongoing generosity, compassion and commitment to tikkun olam, "Repairing the World".
